The Christmas Eve fire has severely
damaged the United Way building in Columbus. The
United Way and several agencies need your help. If
you'd like to offer physical assistance to United

affected by the Christmas Eve fire need office

COLUMBUS
ROTARY CLUB HELPING HAITI WITH SHELTER BOXES
The Columbus Rotary Club has joined a Rotary
International Initiative for relief in Haiti sending
Shelter Boxes to those displaced by the recent
earthquakes. Each box supplies an extended
family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving
equipment to use while they are displaced or
homeless. The contents are tailored depending
on the nature and the location of the disaster.
Over 22,000 boxes were shipped to the Indian Tsunami
and Hurricane Katrina. Each box costs $1000,
and the Columbus Rotarians have sent a box to Haiti
and are collecting funds to send more. For

REQUEST FOR ETHNIC EXPO HOST COUNTRY PARTICIPANTS
Interested ethnicities should contact the Office
of Community Development if they would like to be
selected as the 2010 Unexpected/Unforgettable Ethnic
Expo Host Country. Requirements are: must
represent a country, food booth (fee required), host
country booth at the entrance to Ethnic Expo which
will highlight their culture (booth courtesy of
Ethnic Expo), and construct the host country float
(tractor, wagon, and location to assemble float
provided by the City. Mexico, Japan, USA,
China, and Scotland have the host countries the past

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY 4-H FAIR QUEEN CONTEST ENTRY

MAPLE SYRUP FESTIVAL IN MEDORA
The annual National Maple Syrup Festival will be
held on the first 2 weekends of March (March 13th
& 14th) at Burton's Maplewood Farm, 8121
W. County Road 75 South, Medora, IN, each day from
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. During the festival, maple
trees on the farm will have sap collected for the
making of maple syrup. Come and enjoy
fun-filled events for the whole family including
tours of the working Sugar Bush, Ole McMaple's
Petting Zoo, craft and trade demonstrations, live
music, great food and beverages, and a children's
play area. Admission is $10.00 for adults,
$6.00 for youth (ages 5 - 15), and children age 4

benefit the Heads Up Foundation. The

The local chapter of the American Red Cross will
offer a Babysitting Training Course on Tuesday,
March 16th, from 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM at the Red Cross

is designed for 11 - 15 year olds, and includes
information on: interviewing for babysitting jobs,
choosing safe and age appropriate toys and games,

The Columbus Region of Ivy Tech Community
College will award one scholarship to a top scoring

19th. One $1,000 ($500 for the fall and spring
semesters) scholarship will be awarded to eligible
applicants who are G.E.D. recipients who plan to
enroll at Ivy Tech-Columbus, who have earned a G.E.D.
with an Average Standard Score of 550 or higher, and
who earned their G.E.D. at one of the following
institutions: Atterbury Job Corps, Brown County
Career Resource Center, Greensburg Community
Schools, Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy, Jackson
