The Columbus East Olympians continue on the road to back-to-back State Football Championships as they travel to New Palestine Friday night for a 4A Semi-State.  Join Sam Simmermaker and John Foster at 6:20 PM for the pre-game and kick off at 7:00 PM.

Columbus East semi-state football tickets are $8 and will be available at the athletic office Tuesday through Friday. Same special deals as last week: Ticket & hoodie $25, ticket and T-shirt $15, & ticket, hoodie and T-shirt $30.  New Palestine officials are encouraging fans to get tickets early in order to avoid the probability of long lines.

East fans are invited to attend a team send-off at 4:00 PM Friday in the East athletic parking lot.  Fans may caravan to New Pal after the players board the bus. Gates will open at New Palestine H.S. at 5:40 PM.

Recommended route to New Palestine: State Road 9 to US 52. Left on 52 to the school.

Markell Jones now #2 in the nation, #1 in Indiana in rushing yards & rushing TDs.  He is two shy of state record for TDs in a season. He is also 333 yards away from the state career yardage mark.

Columbus East kicker Joe Krause and a kicker from North Vermillion High School are tied with 84 PATs, a state record (previous mark 79), and both are playing Friday night in Semi-States.

Former Columbus East baseball and boys basketball coach Lou Giovanini, 75, passed away early Wednesday in Florida. Sifting through countless Facebook posts, I think Bill Foreman said it best: "Great competitor, great opponent, great coach, great teammate and a better friend."

It's official: Columbus East will move from Class 4-A to 5-A in football next season.

Three Columbus North baseball players make college choices: Collin Lollar, Jr., Ohio State; Cody Burton, Sr., Indiana State; and Evan Finke, Sr., Snead State (Ala.) Community College.

Columbus North's Ali Patberg has been cited as an IBCA/Subway Player of the Week.

Local runners participated in the Nike Midwest Cross Country Meet at Terre Haute over the weekend, running as the Columbus Thorn. Both boys and girls finished 8th.

Hauser held its annual boys basketball Black and White scrimmage Monday night. Coach Bob Nobbe says nine or ten players should see lots of action this season as he envisions a deep bench and a team that will be able to run and press like Hauser teams of the past.

Columbus East Lady O's are doing a fundraiser "Layups for Lauren" to collect money to fight pediatric brain cancer and raise awareness about the disease. The event will be Thursday when East plays East Central. The fundraiser honors Lauren Hill, 19, of Lawrenceburg, who is suffering from the disease.

Columbus East's Micayla Speidel named KIAC All-Conference volleyball at IU Kokomo.

28 athletes from Columbus North earned first-team all-Conference Indiana honors in eight fall sports, along with 12 honorable mention citations. Coaches of the Year: Scott Seavers in girls golf, Derek Stewart in girls soccer, and Rick Weinheimer in girls cross country.

3 Columbus East baseball players signed college letters-of-intent Friday: William Anderson, Northern Illinois; Cam Curry, St. Joseph's; and Sam Claycamp, Dayton.

The Indianapolis Star reports that a 2-day high school boys basketball class at the Fairgrounds Coliseum in Indy on December 22nd & 23rd has been canceled. Columbus North was to play Bowman Academy on the 23rd.
