ANNOUNCEMENT
The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame has a
new executive director. He is Chris May, a
graduate of Rushville High School and DePauw
University. May has been the producer of
the Dan Dakich Show on 1070 The Fan. He
replaces Roger Dickinson, who is retiring. BASKETBALL BOOST
Dean Layman of the Foundation for Youth
announces formation of the "Columbus
Basketball Association". Within the
association framework will be three entities:
The Columbus Revolution, the Foundation for
Youth Rising Stars Biddy Basketball Program, and
the P-A-A-L Basketball League. The
Columbus Revolution is designed for boys going
into the 3rd - 6th grades. Tryouts will be
held in July. Players will compete in the
Indy Hoops League in October - February with
games on Sundays. Layman,
and high school varsity coaches Steve Brunes,
Columbus East, and Jason Speer, Columbus North,
hope this plan will improve the feeder system
and development of players for the Bull Dogs and
Olympians.
COACHING CHANGES
*Columbus North has a new
varsity boys basketball assistant coach.
He's former Bull Dog Kevin "K-J"
Johnson. Johnson replaces Anthony Lindsay,
who has accepted a football coaching position at
Martinsville High School.
*Jason Warthan has resigned as Columbus
North wrestling coach to accept a position as
head wrestling and assistant Men's track coach
at the University of Indianapolis.
*Megan
Shaff, head volleyball coach at Columbus North,
has also been named an assistant varsity girls
basketball coach at North. She will share that
post with current varsity assistant Nathan Bean. *Columbus
East reserve boys basketball coach Mark Meier
will move up to varsity assistant, replacing
Eric Wohlford, who resigned. New reserve coach
will be former East cager, Josh Jacoboski.
Jeff Reed will remain as freshman coach. *St.
Peter's Lutheran athletic director Stacy Meier
has stepped down in order to assume a full-time
teaching position. No successor has been
named as yet.
COVETED CHANCE
Columbus East will be one of 6 high school
grid squads that will participate in Peyton
Manning's Peyback Classic X on Friday, August
21st, at Lucas Oil Stadium. The O's will
meet Greenwood at 6:05 PM.
SPORTS SHORTS
*Columbus North boys golf
co-MVPs are Brandon Knapp and Coleman Glick.
*Columbus
North's Cassie Loweth has been named 1st team
All-State. She also was selected to play
in the North-South All-Star game on Saturday,
June 27th, at Ben Davis High School. *Northside
Middle School will have Summer Fun Runs on
Mondays and Thursdays through July starting at
4:00 PM at Mill Race Park. *Greenbelt
"twilight rate" expanded to allow
unlimited play after 2:00 PM for $20 with cart 7
days a week. *Lincoln
Center batting cages are open Monday - Friday
5:00 - 8:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM - 5:00
PM, and Sunday Noon - 5:00 PM. *Ex-Bull
Frog swimmer Matt Barr is the new Donner Swim
Club age group head coach. Former Columbus
North swimmer Autumn Sandlin will be his
assistant. |
