“The King and I” (7/15/10)
Odds are you’ll see someone you know performing on the
stage of Judson Erne Auditorium at Columbus North High School this
weekend as the Mill Race Players present “The King and I”. About 70
local actors, singers, dancers and lots of children from our
community will probably have you “whistling a happy tune” as they
are “getting to know you” during the production. The original
Broadway play in 1951 and the resulting movie in 1956 probably made
Yul Brynner a household name. Save a dollar and buy advanced tickets
($7 for adults/children 12 and under $5) for the Mill Race Player’s
presentation of “The King and I” at available at Viewpoint Books,
The Columbus Area Arts Council or Donner Center .

My pick for the week is
freshly out in theaters.
Toy Story 3 looks to be one of the best family films of the
year. Remembering fondly the first two for sure! All your favorite
characters are back on the big screen. Woody - Buzz Lightyear -
Jessie -Bullseye - Mr Potato Head - Mrs Potato Head -3 alien squeak
toys from Pizza Planet -Slinky Dog -Rex -Hamm the Piggy Bank.
Featuring the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Michael
Keaton, Ned Beatty and Don Rickles.
Andy who is now 17, ready to head off to college, leaving the whole
toy-box gang. Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the toys are
donated accidentally to the Sunnyside Daycare center. Once they
arrive they’re glad to once again be played with, but that quickly
changes as they discover the true nature of the establishment under
the rule of the "Lotso" Bear. Now, all of the toys have to band
together in this final, crazy scheme to escape this place and return
home to Andy. This truly does live up to the original Toy Story
movies. Enjoy!!

Call of Duty: Modern
Warfare 2 “Stimulus Package” Map Pack
What many gamers and those in the industry have called 2009’s Game
of the Year gets even better with the downloadable “Stimulus
Package” Map Pack on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. While the price tag
of $15 for the pack of five maps (three new and two refurbished maps
from the original COD: MW) may seem a little steep, the sales have
been great and the extra playgrounds for death and carnage are
genuinely fun. We can hope the same is true for the next batch of
DLC for the game; “Resurgence Pack” hits Xbox Live on June 3rd. It
is expected to be available on the Playstation Store one week later.
Expected Price? - $15

"About a week ago, my wife and I
rented a few movies to watch over the weekend. One of those movies
was "Couples Retreat," starring Vince Vaughn and a handful of other
recognizable faces. All of the previews bill the movie as a
rip-roaring comedy, which it is, but there's also a serious
underlying theme about marriage and what it takes to make your
relationship work. You see, only one of the four couples that head
off to "Eden" is supposedly in need of couples therapy to save their
marriage. The other three tag along to "have some fun." But by the
end of the movie, the other three couples also realize that their
relationship isn't perfect and are reminded that it takes both
parties working at it to make it work. As the viewer, you're
reminded how easy it is to take your mate for granted and by just
doing things that each of you likes to do and wants to do can go a
long way. So the next time your hubby wants to watch the UFC on
television or your wife wants you to help pick out flowers for the
garden, do it. It could mean preventing your marriage from becoming
just another statistic."

My pick is actually a movie I saw in theaters now available on DVD.
“Couples Retreat” stars Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman and Kristen
Bell. Following failed attempts to having a baby. One couple is
close to getting a divorce and in order to try and save their
marriage they book a couples therapy retreat and to save money they
talk their close friends into joining them. Once they arrive they
learn that one side of the island is a singles resort but couples
are not allowed to go there and that the couples will have to will
attend the therapy so they can enjoy the benefits the island offers.
After their first therapy session all four couples learn they have
problems with their relationships and eventually by the end of the
trip realize they really did need this to help them. This is a very
funny movie with lots of fun.

The Reality Magic Show returns to Columbus on Saturday, March 20th,
with two shows at Columbus East High School’s Robbins Auditorium at
3:00PM and 7:00PM. If you missed last year’s single show (a
sellout!) you missed a Las Vegas-style production, with magic,
illusion, comedy and even some “big cats”. It’s truly an event for
the entire family. Tickets are available from any Meridian Kiwanis
Club member and you can visit

There's no better way to bring in the new year if you're a Led
Zeppelin fan than with Zoso, the ultimate led Zeppelin experience,
playing at the Bluebird Nightclub in Bloomington new year's eve.
These guys look and sound as authentic as the originals, and play
all the juiciest material from “Led Zeppelin 1” through “In Through
The Out Door.” “Rock and Roll” to “Moby Dick” and a stirring
“Stairway to Heaven”, Zoso plays 'em all. And since a Led Zeppelin
reunion tour won't be happening anytime soon, this is truly the next
best thing. So get some led to rock in 2010!

This is one movie I’m sorry to say that I missed at the theater. The
Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. Set in the city of New Orleans the
day that Hurricane Katrina hits, an elderly woman asks her daughter
Caroline to read from a diary left to her by a man named Benjamin.
Born on the same day World War I ended, Benjamin Button's mother
died giving birth to him. As a newborn, Benjamin was old and
wrinkled and his father Thomas Button leaves him on the doorstep of
an old folk's home. Benjamin is taken in and taken care of by the
people there. Benjamin soon realizes that he is growing younger, not
older however. Early on, he meets the love of his life, Daisy, only
a little girl who grows into a beautiful woman while Benjamin grows
into a handsome young man. Their lives take lots of different turns
and making a life together of limited duration given their
ultimately different fates. It’s a rather long movie but a great
story line and very entertaining.
