Teen Sentenced After Pleading Guilty In Rape Case

A Jackson County teen recently received a nine-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to rape in Jackson Circuit Court.

The "Seymour Tribune" reports 17-year-old Benjamin L. Roberts, of Seymour, was sentenced by Senior Judge Bill Vance, who suspended two years of the sentence.

The paper reports Roberts entered a guilty plea to the rape charge on Jan. 29. A criminal confinement charge was dismissed by the state.

The charges stem from an incident reported to Seymour Police Department last spring. Detective C.J. Foster said Roberts was arrested after police received a call on May 30 from the emergency room at Schneck Medical Center about a woman seeking attention for a sexual assault.
