City officials in Seymour say construction on its skate park will start next month, but skateboarders and BMX bikers won't be able to use it until next spring.
The "Seymour Tribune" reports the Seymour Parks and Recreation Board Monday picked Bateman Builders of Seymour to construct the 10,440-square-foot facility at Shields Park on the city’s northeast side.
Bateman beat out Dave O’Mara Contractor Inc. of North Vernon with a bid of $145,528. That price includes the main flat concrete area and a few ramps and rails in the middle. Bateman's bid is expected to be approved during the city's Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting Thursday morning at 11 at City Hall.
The cost of the skate park is greater than the $120,000 estimate the city originally had agreed to, but officials say they are glad to get the project rolling.
