Columbus Public Safety spokesman Lt. Matt Myers says conditions have improved in the Ninth Street Park area of the city since residents living there and the city teamed up to make it a better neighborhood.
That area of the city has been plague in recent years by crime and drug-related activity. Myers says you can see a difference because the park is in better shape and residents are calling and reporting suspicious activity when they see it happening.
"It is better than it was six months ago there in that area," Myers said. "And if you don't believe me, go down and talk to the residents. The city, Mayor (Kristen) Brown spearheaded the cleanup in that area. We've put video surveillance cameras up in that area."
To mark their achievements, a neighborhood celebration will be held at the park starting at noon Saturday. It will feature a picnic and town hall meeting to celebrate the recent significant improvements to the park, public safety and the area neighborhood. Community leaders will also be on hand to address any questions or concerns you may have.
