Ben Jackson was chosen Friday night to fill the unexpired term of Fred Barkes as Columbus Township Trustee during the Bartholomew County Republican Party's Caucus.
Barkes announced his resignation a few weeks ago citing family and health reasons in his resignation letter. His last day was Friday.
Recent reports indicated that he had been under investigation by the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office after admitting faking an email from The Republic to the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance about timing of public notice advertisements for the township budget.
Barkes said he failed to properly publish the budget notice and was nervous funding would be at risk as a result of his error.
Jackson said in a press release Thursday that if elected, he would run for election to a full term next year.
He will be sworn in Monday morning at 8:30 at the Bartholomew County Courthouse.
