The race for Bartholomew County Sheriff is a little more crowded after another candidate announced his intentions Monday.
Columbus Public Safety spokesman Lt. Matt Myers announced his candidacy for the position being vacated by Mark Gorbett due to term limits.
Myers, a Republican, has over 23 years of experience in law enforcement, 22 of them with the Columbus Police Department. He started his career as a corrections officer under former Sheriffs Rick Hill and David Mann. In 1991, he joined the Columbus Police Department as a Patrolman. Since that time, Myers worked his way up the ranks and has 11 years of supervisory and command experience.
In a press release announcing his candidacy, Myers says his goal is to "lead with the bold vision of making Bartholomew County the safest community of its size in the country by reducing crime and providing the best protection and services to all county residents."
