Smith Announces His Candidacy for Sheriff

Another Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department employee has decided he would like to be sheriff.

Sgt. T.A. Smith, a deputy with more than 30 years of experience in the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, announced this week that he plans to seek the Republican nomination for sheriff next year. That's according to our news gathering partners at "The Republic."

Smith looks to replace two-term Sheriff Mark Gorbett, who can't seek re-election due to term limits.

Smith joins Bartholomew County Chief Deputy Todd Noblitt and Sgt. Dean Johnson along with Columbus Public Safety spokesman Lt. Matt Myers in next year's sheriff's race.

Smith told the paper he is excited to run for sheriff and plans to offer his education, training and insight to the community.
