An elderly Johnson County man became a victim of fraud Wednesday.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says the man, whose name was not released, was contacted by someone posing as his grandson saying he had been arrested and needed bail money.
Officials say the person who was posing as the man's grandson handed the phone to another person who identified himself as Deputy Burke. The deputy gave instructions on how much money to send and how to send it. He was told to send $1,800 to a bail agent in California.
The man went to his bank and withdrew the money, went to Western Union and wired the money. He was then contacted to send another $2,200, but decided to contact his grandson.
The man learned that his grandson was at home in Greenwood. He then went to the sheriff's office and made a report.
