INDOT will hold a public open house on Thursday, July 18 regarding a proposed access road improvement project within Yellowwood State Forest in Brown County. This improvement also encompasses the county road systems of Yellowwood Road and Yellowwood Lake Road due to their access points north and south to the Yellowwood State Forest.
The open house will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Brown County Junior High School located at 95 School House Lane in Nashville.
Officials say the purpose of this open house will be to introduce this proposed project to the community and more importantly, to receive public input, address questions, comments and concerns. The open house will feature project maps/displays and representatives will be available to explain project details and talk with the project stakeholders individually in an informal setting.
The need of the project is due to frequent short term closures of the roads due to flooding as a result of culverts and bridges that are in poor condition and hydraulically undersized. The project will involve two types of road improvements; some segments will receive a chip and seal overlay while others receive more significant road reconstruction where the road alignment may change and the pavement replaced.
