A Decatur County man was arrested Tuesday afternoon on meth charges.
Indiana State Police say 35-year-old Jeffery Smith, of Westport, was taken into custody and preliminarily charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine precursors and improper storage of anhydrous ammonia, all felonies. Additional charges and arrests could follow as the investigation continues.
Officials say Decatur County Child Protective Services received a tip of possible drug activity at 2465W County Road 850S in Decatur County and requested state police help with the home visit.
At 3:30 p.m. troopers and CPS personnel arrived at the home and discovered evidence of possible drug use. A search warrant was applied for and issued. During the search, investigators found a working meth lab, 2 grams of methamphetamine and numerous firearms. Although there was evidence children had been present in the home, there were no children present during the investigation.
