FAA investigators are back on the scene today of a plane crash that injured two Columbus men Thursday morning in the 2200 block of Broadmoor Lane in Columbus.
Multiple reports say the pilot, 81-year-old Gerald H. Clayton is in serious condition and his passenger, 60-year-old Dennis King, is in fair condition at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis. Both men suffered serious burns in the crash. No one on the ground was injured.
Around 9:30 a.m., Clayton's plane crashed into the home causing considerable damage to the south side of the home. Investigators say Clayton's plane was built from a kit and was registered to him. Witnesses say they knew from the sound of the plane that it was in trouble.
Columbus Public Safety spokesman Lt. Matt Myers says 10 people were interviewed last night and investigators were able to look over the wreckage.
Myers says they were not able to speak to Clayton or King yesterday, but hope to do so today.
Police ask that you stay away from the crash scene as the investigation continues.
Any witnesses who have not been interviewed by investigators are asked to contact Columbus Police Detective Chris Couch at 376-2628.
