The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced the six recipients of the 2013 Governor's Arts Awards.
"I am honored to recognize this year's Governor's Arts Awards recipients for their contributions to the state and the arts," Pence said. "These talented and passionate Hoosiers strengthen the culture of Indiana through their individual work, commitment to community development, and enthusiasm and support for the arts in their many forms."
The 2013 recipients of the Indiana Governor's Arts Awards are:
Christel DeHaan, philanthropist from Indianapolis;
Cynthia Hartshorn, music educator, vocalist from Indianapolis;
Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan;
Traditional Arts Indiana, arts organization in Bloomington
John Hiatt, singer, songwriter from Nashville, TN;
Sydney Pollack, producer, director, actor, Los Angeles, CA (posthumous).
Governor Pence, First Lady Karen Pence, honorary chair of the Governor's Arts Awards, and the IAC will honor the recipients during an awards dinner and ceremony on Sept. 26 in Carmel, Ind. For more information on the awards, please visit www.in.gov/arts/2332.htm.
"These artists and community leaders are an inspiring presence in the state and demonstrate how the arts enrich everyday life," Lewis Ricci, executive director of the IAC, said. "It is fitting that on this, the 40th anniversary of the Governor's Arts Awards, we honor such notable recipients."
