Two Edinburgh residents were arrested this past weekend after police found a meth lab in the woods.
The Edinburgh Police Department says 20-year-old Joshua Thomas was arrested on charges of dealing methamphetamine, possession of drug precursors, obstructing justice, dumping controlled substance waste and possession of methamphetamine. A 17-year-old male companion was also arrested on meth charges.
Edinburgh Police say that at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, an officer spotted the suspects walking out of a grassy area near a factory at 7560 E. County Line Rd. and Timbergate Golf Course. The officer approached the pair to ask what they were doing. During the conversation, the officer noticed Thomas allegedly carrying a glass jar. As the officer approached the suspects, he noticed the area the young men were standing in was wet and gave off a strong chemical odor. He also noted that the jar contained a white, powdery substance.
The pair were then arrested. Thomas then allegedly confessed to making and being in possession of methamphetamine. He then led police to a wooded area near the 13th hole at Timbergate Golf Course where officers found a meth lab and precursors.
Thomas, who police say is currently on probation for drug charges in Johnson County, was booked in the Johnson County Jail. The 17-year-old male was interviewed by police in the presence of his mother, then transferred to the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center. Police say that about 30 days prior to this incident, the minor was found in a meth lab inside his home.
