The official state position that repeated outages during the most recent ISTEP testing had no measurable negative effects on test scores is upsetting to local school superintendents.
Flat Rock-Hawcreek Schools Superintendent Dr. Kathy Griffey says the repeated outages definitely caused problems for the affected students.
"No interruptions of student testing is ever acceptable," Griffey said.
She added that those testing interruptions cost personnel time and instruction time and did immeasurable harm to scores and student attitudes about the test. Griffey says between 10 and 15 percent of FRHC students were affected by the ISTEP outages.
