An early morning crash resulted in a Jackson County man being airlifted to the hospital.
According to Indiana State Police investigators, just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, an SUV was headed south on State Road 135 just north of the Washington County line when the driver, 46-year-old Allen Newsome of Vallonia, apparently fell asleep. The SUV then ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Newsome was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated by members of the Brownstown Fire Department. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby landing zone where he was then flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for severe injuries to his lower extremities. Neither drug nor alcohol are believed to have been a factor in the crash.
