Bartholomew County authorities have released the names of those injured in Monday evening's one-vehicle crash on I-65.
Major Todd Noblitt, with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department, says the crash occurred just before 5:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes near the 62.5 mile marker. The driver, 21-year-old Eric Herrington of Martinsville, allowed the SUV he was driving to drift into the rumble strips on the side on the road. He reportedly over corrected, causing the vehicle to flip several times.
Herrington and his passenger, 26-year-old Celia Patterson of Whiteland, were both transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. As of Tuesday afternoon, Herrington's condition was describes as "critical but stable." Patterson's injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Noblitt says that investigators spoke with Patterson, who indicated that the cause of the crash was due to Herrington being on his phone, trying to get a GPS app to work.
The crash closed traffic for over two hours.
