The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to shift traffic Wednesday morning on State Road 3 at the intersection with new U.S. Highway 50 on the north side of North Vernon. Both northbound and southbound traffic will be routed to the east side of the roadway while one-half mile of State Road 3 on the west side is being constructed.
A 10-foot width restriction will be enforced through the construction zone.
The traffic pattern will continue for four weeks. After that, you will be redirected to the newly build west side for construction of the east half of State Road 3.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday through Thursday, flaggers will be present to guide drivers around construction crews placing barrier wall and temporary pavement markings.
State Road 3's intersection with U.S. 50 is at the east end of Phase I (the western section) of the $21.9 million U.S. 50 Bypass Project at North Vernon. Force Construction, the state's contractor, is building the northern portion of this section-from County Road 150 North to State Road 3. Milestone Contractors is constructing the southern portion of the U.S. 50 Bypass from County Road 400 West to County Road 150 North.
