A Vallonia man died and his wife was injured Wednesday night when their motorcycle struck a tree limb that had fallen onto a road just south of Brownstown.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department says that just after 10 p.m., a motorcycle driven by 44-year-old Larry Thomas was headed south on State Road 135 near County Road 150 West when it struck a tree limb that was in the roadway. Thomas was thrown from the bike, as was his wife, and passenger, 51-year-old Marjorie Thomas. Larry Thomas was fatally injured.
After the initial collision, Larry Thomas' body was laying on the road when it was struck by a north bound vehicle driven by 30-year-old Adam Morgan, of Salem.
Jackson County Coroner Roger Wheeler pronounced Thomas dead at the scene.
Wheeler conducted an autopsy Thursday morning, which indicated that Thomas died from head and neck injuries suffered in the initial impact with the tree limb.
Marjorie Thomas was injured and treated by Jackson County Emergency Medical Service personnel before being taken to the sheriff's department in Brownstown. She was then flown to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of what authorities called "non-life-threatening injuries."
Morgan was not injured.
