Enrollment at the Columbus and Franklin campuses of Ivy Tech is up.
According to college officials, their headcount increased 3 percent this fall as compared to the same time last year. The number of students enrolled is 4,424 as compared with 4,292 in the fall of 2012. Statewide, Ivy Tech says it has again enrolled more than 100,000 students.
Increased transfer and dual credit opportunities are contributing factors to the recent regional growth, according to college officials.
"As our enrollments continue to increase, we find ourselves more urgently in need of a new building in which to hold classes," commented John Hogan, chancellor of the local campus.
"Ivy Tech has continued to develop many financially-friendly pathways for students to complete their associate degrees, which increases their earning power, and also the most affordable pathways to bachelor's degrees, which increases earning power even more," Hogan said. "Prospective college students are coming to realize they can save tens of thousands of dollars by attending their local community college campuses."
Regionally, Ivy Tech has transfer opportunities with the Purdue College of Technology, IUPUC and Trine University. Ivy Tech also has transfer agreements with IU Bloomington, Purdue West Lafayette, Indiana State University, Ball State University and IUPUI.
