Indiana Conservation Officers arrested one Heltonville man Thursday evening and another faces pending charges after both fled while riding ATVs in Monroe County.
Indiana Conservation Officer Jim Schreck says 45-year-old Mickel Ficus and 33-year-old Mitchell Prince both face charges of resisting law enforcement and Prince faces an additional charge of operating an ATV under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
Schreck says shortly after 7:30 p.m., the pair failed to yield to a conservation officer's emergency lights while traveling on Chapel Hill Road in Monroe County. The two fled at a high rate of speed, out of sight of the conservation officer.
The conservation officer ultimately located Prince, who had pulled off farther down the road, and exhibited signs of impairment. Ficus, who had concealed himself in a nearby wooded area, was located a short while later and jailed on an active parole violation warrant.
Indiana Conservation Officers wish to remind ATV riders that all traffic regulations apply to ATVs when on the roadways. Monroe County roads are closed to ATVs, however a complete listing of counties open to ATV traffic is available at www.in.gov/dnr/outdoor/4431.htm.
