A Capitol Police Officer was arrested on child molestation charges Sunday in Johnson County.

Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox says around 8 p.m., deputies were sent to 5652 South 550 East where two adults reported a child molesting incident from the night before during a party. Cox says the two had witnessed an incident between an 11-year-old girl and a 43-year-old man.

The sheriff says deputies took the initial information and then asked that the Investigations Division join them at the scene. The girl was interviewed and said she was kissed and touched inappropriately by the suspect, Scott Litten, while in the swimming pool at the previous evening's party.

Cox says Litten was initially arrested for sexual battery. After a forensic interview with the girl was conducted by the Department of Child Services, Litten's charges were upgraded to child molesting, a Class A felony, after the girl admitted that was she was fondled by Litten in the pool that evening.

Captain Dave Bursten with Indiana State Police says Litten will remain on leave with pay pending the outcome of the case. Bursten says Litten has been with Capitol Police since July 2002.
