An arrest has been made in the death of an 8-month-old Washington County boy.
Sgt. Jerry Goodin, with Indiana State Police Post in Sellersburg, says ISP detectives arrested 24-year-old Jamie James Lykins of Salem around 3:15 Monday afternooon. He is the live-in boyfriend of the infant's mother.
Goodin says around 7 p.m. Saturday, Leelan Crain, of Salem, was found unresponsive by his mother while the baby was taking a nap. The boy's mother and Lykins took him to St. Vincent's Hospital in Salem. Leelan was then airlifted to Kosair Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 1:40 a.m. Sunday.
An autopsy was performed Sunday morning at the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville. The autopsy preliminarily determined the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.
Lykins was arrested after detectives were able to gather enough evidence from interviews, Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigators and Crain's autopsy.
Lykins was charged with felony counts of neglect of a dependent and battery causing death. He is currently being held in the Washington County Jail.
Goodin says the investigation is continuing.
