Police in North Vernon are investigating a fatal shooting that took place Monday afternoon.
NVPD Public Information Officer Justin Black says that at 12:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to 309 Franklin St. on a report of a person being shot. According to call logs, there were several calls placed to the Jennings County Central Dispatch Center.
Upon arrival, officers located the individual who had been shot, laying in the front yard. He was identified as 24-year-old Jeremy Moore of North Vernon. Moore was transported to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The suspect, who has been identified as 57-year-old Donald Ray Williams of Commiskey, was taken into custody without incident.
Initial reports indicate that Moore and Williams had gotten into some sort of argument in front of the home. During the course of the argument, police believe that Williams shot Moore.
Williams was booked in the Jennings County Jail on a preliminary charge of reckless homicide, a Class C felony. He is being held on $25,000 bond.
Black says the investigation is ongoing.
