Motorists traveling U.S. Highway 50 on Tuesday, Sept. 17 will be routed onto new pavement at the west end of the North Vernon Bypass project. Base Road, near County Road 400 West, will connect existing U.S. 50 with the new roadway.
· All U.S. 50 traffic will make a full stop at the intersection of Base Road and the bypass.
· Eastbound traffic will turn right at Base Road from the new pavement.
· Westbound traffic will turn left at Base Road onto the new pavement.
The Indiana Department of Transportation advises drivers to expect intermittent delays Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. while construction crews move concrete barrier walls and place pavement markings. Flaggers will be present to direct single-lane traffic around workers and equipment.
The new section of roadway from Base Road to the west end of the project is one-half mile in length. It is the first section of the North Vernon Bypass to open to the public. INDOT stresses that current plans do not call for other configuration changes until the entire bypass is opened in November.
