A Versailles man died after his Amish buggy collided with a pickup truck Thursday in Ripley County.Sgt. Noel Houze, with Indiana State Police in Versailles, says a horse and buggy rig, operated by 18-year-old Daniel X. Stoltzfus of Versailles, was going north on U.S. 421 near County Road 450 S around 10 p.m. when for unknown reasons the buggy crossed over into the southbound lanes and was struck head-on by a pickup truck going south driven by 53-year-old Wilma E. Asher of Versailles.
Houze says the impact killed the horse and ejected Stoltzfus into the northbound lane of U.S. 421 where he may have been struck by one or two vehicles going north. The drivers were identified as 54-year-old Jeffrey W. Clippert of Madison and 54-year-old Chester R. Swinney of Versailles.
None of the drivers were injured. The crash remains under investigation.
