Work on Phase One of the U.S. 50 North Vernon Bypass project is on schedule. That's according to INDOT spokesperson Harry Maginity.
He says two construction companies - Milestone Contractors and Force Construction - are working on the $21.9 million dollar project. Maginity says a part of the bypass from County Road 150 to about 500 feet south and west of State Road 7 has already been paved.
Intersection work is currently underway on State Roads 7 and 3. Maginity says the east side of State Road 7 is being built and traffic should be switched in that area in a few weeks. Then work on the west side of State Road 7 will begin.
Maginity says the same work is being done right now on State Road 3 where the west side is currently under construction. He says traffic will be switched to the west side as soon as possible into the new pavement. Once that is done, the east side will be torn out and rebuilt.
Maginity says if everything stays on track, the new bypass should be ready for traffic by the end of this year.
