A Hartsville woman landed in the Bartholomew County Jail after leading police on a chase Friday afternoon.
Sgt. Noel Houze, with Indiana State Police in Versailles, says around 3:20 p.m., Trooper Robert Hutson was going west on State Road 46 (25th Street) in Columbus when he clocked an SUV going 89 in a 55 mile per hour zone going east.
Tpr. Hutson turned to pursue the vehicle. As he began to catch up to it, he overheard radio traffic from Columbus Police that a vehicle fitting the description of the SUV had just struck a person pushing a moped and left the scene. The pursuit continued east on State Road 46 reaching speeds in excess of 95 miles per hour. The pursuit ended in Hartsville as the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 29-year-old Ami I. Whitfield, pulled into her home on Harrison Street in Hartsville and fled on foot.
Tpr. Hutson caught Whitfield and took her into custody without further incident. She was transported to Bartholomew County Jail where she is facing charges of leaving the scene of a serious personal injury crash, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and resisting law enforcement-fleeing. Tpr. Hutson was assisted with the apprehension by Sgt. Brian Wilson of the Indiana State Police.
The crash was investigated by Columbus Police Department.
