The Bartholomew County Clerk's Office continues work on a proposal to have vote centers throughout the county.
The Bartholomew County Council let Clerk Tami Hines know during its meeting last week that members were supportive of considering the plan. Currently, if a county voter wants to cast a ballot in person, he or she must vote at an assigned precinct polling place. That assignment is based on the voter's home address. With voting centers, registered voters will be able to vote at any center in the county, regardless of address.
Hines says her office wants to hear from voters to help gage support for the vote centers. She says the Bartholomew County Election Board will meet on Monday to set a date for the first public meeting to be held in November.
