Shelbyville Man Killed in Head-On Collision

A Shelbyville man died after a head-on collision Friday afternoon in Shelby County.

Maj. David Tilford, with the Shelby County Sheriff's Dept., said that at approximately 2:16 p.m., first responders received a report of a head-on collision on State Road 9, just south of Mill Road.

Upon Officers arriving at the scene, a car was in the northbound lane facing north with substantial damage. A Mack trash truck, belonging to the City of Shelbyville, was north of the car, overturned in the ditch along the east side of the roadway.

Tilford says that the car was traveling southbound on State Road 9, when it crossed the center line into the path of the northbound trash truck. The driver of the trash truck was unable to avoid the collision and the vehicles struck head on.

The driver of the car, a 34-year-old male from Shelbyville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the trash truck, a 60-year-old man from Shelbyville, was treated for minor injuries at Major Hospital.

The identities of those involved in the crash are not being released at this time.

It is unknown at this time why car crossed the center line, but Tilford says the investigation continues.

We'll have more details as they become available.
