Bartholomew County Sheriff Mark Gorbett recently appointed two new sheriff's deputies. Leah Burton and Teancum Clark were sworn in Oct. 14.

Sheriff's Department spokesman Maj. Todd Noblitt says the 33-year-old Burton comes from the Correction Division of the Sheriff's Office where she worked as a civilian corrections officer for one year. She was assigned to the Inmate Transportation Division. Burton has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.

Clark, who is also 33-years-old, arrived at the Sheriff's Office after being a teacher at Columbus North High School for the past five years. He has a bachelor's degree in Spanish education.

Noblitt says that department leaders expect both of these deputies to bring a great deal of insight, diversity and life experience to the agency.

Both Burton and Clark will attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield beginning Nov. 18. They are scheduled to attend the academy for 15 weeks to learn the skills necessary to perform their jobs as law enforcement officers. Both are scheduled to graduate from the academy in mid-March.
