Authorities in Jennings County along with state and federal agencies apprehended a known fugitive Tuesday afternoon.
Maj. Jerry Shepherd, with the Jennings County Sheriff's Office, says 27-year-old Rocky Lee Tyler of Holton was wanted on numerous felony charges.
Shepherd says officers had recently attempted to apprehend Tyler and he escaped from officers after leading police on vehicle and foot pursuits in Jennings, Ripley and Jefferson counties.
He says officers went to a home in the Nebraska area after receiving information that Tyler was seen near a home on County Road 830 E east of Nebraska. Prior to officer's arrival at the home, Tyler went into a heavily wooded area south of the home according to the home owner.
Officers search the woods and found Tyler with the help of an Indiana State Police K-9 team. He once again attempted to resist arrest and flee from police.
Shepherd says after being taken into custody, Tyler was then transported to the emergency room for treatment of dog bites received while resisting arrest. He was later released and transported to the Jennings County Jail where he was lodged on several warrants. He is also is being charged with resisting arrest in Tuesday's confrontation with officers. He is also wanted on various felony charges from Jefferson and Ripley Counties.
The sheriff's office was assisted by North Vernon Police, members of the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force, the Indiana State Police Emergency Response and K-9 Team members, the Ripley County Sheriff's Office, the Madison Police Department and the Holton Town Marshal.
