A Bartholomew County man wanted on three counts of dealing heroin and known to possess and carry handguns was arrested following a traffic stop Monday night in Columbus.
Columbus Public Safety spokesman Lt. Matt Myers says the police department's COPPS unit along with narcotics detectives served an arrest warrant on 21-year-old Branden L. Smith, of Columbus, following a traffic stop in the area of 19th and Caldwell. Tyler was stopped after narcotics detectives spotted him in the area.
Myers says after Smith was taken into custody on the warrants out of Bartholomew County on three counts of dealing heroin, police found a semi-automatic pistol in his vehicle on the passenger side seat in plain view.
After a police K-9 alerted on Smith's vehicle during the traffic stop, officers conducted a search in the alerted area and found digital scales with drug residue on them. Smith is currently being held in the Bartholomew County Jail and the investigation is ongoing.
