An Iowa man is facing several charges after failing to stop for an Indiana State Police trooper Wednesday afternoon in Shelbyville.
ISP Public Information Officer Rich Myers says that at 2:10 p.m., Trooper Jeremy Basso attempted to stop a car heading west on I-74 at the 110 mile marker for a traffic violation. Myers says the driver failed to stop and continued traveling on I-74, ultimately exiting onto the London Road exit. The pursuit continued with the vehicle running off the road into a corn field near County Road 400 West and County Road 900 North. A Shelby County Sheriff's deputy chased the car out of the corn field, ending the pursuit shortly thereafter when the suspect's vehicle crashed in the 9700 block of County Road 400 West.
The driver, 26-year-old Joshua O. Bailey, received minor injuries from flying glass and a K-9 bite when he attempted to flee the wreckage. He was transported to Major Hospital in Shelbyville for treatment. No one else was hurt.
Bailey was ultimately taken to the Shelby County Jail, where he faces initial charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle, both felonies.
Myers says the investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be forthcoming.
