Toyota Material Handling celebrated the grand opening of its new North American headquarters in Columbus Monday morning at the facility located at 5559 Inwood Drive.
The expanded facilities represent a multi-million dollar investment, adding 21,400 square feet to the Toyota campus. Since the company first began operations in 1990, more than a dozen expansions have took place with over $117 million in investment.
The company's headquarters was based in Irvine, CA before the move to Bartholomew County. Jeff Rufener, Toyota Material Handling U.S.A. President, says the move was just good business. He says moving to Columbus consolidates people and allows everyone to work together a little easier. Rufener adds that the move will keep company officials in closer proximity with customers. The move took place without any tax exemptions at the state or local level, as company officials did not ask for them.
Rufener says the remainder of the staff still in California will be in Columbus soon. He adds that 50 jobs are coming to Columbus, and that 25 new associates are expected to be hired.
