A Jennings County man faces numerous charges after fleeing from police early Friday morning in North Vernon.
The North Vernon Police Department says 50-year-old Brent K. Begley, of North Vernon, was arrested and charged with resisting law enforcement, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment, reckless driving, resisting law enforcement, four counts of intimidation, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct. Police say he also refused to submit to chemical testing.
According to the police report, officers were called out around 12:40 a.m. to Phat Guys regarding a man who was allegedly drunk trying to start his car and leave. Sgt. Keith Messer arrived on scene and saw the vehicle leaving. The vehicle left the area without any headlights or tail lights on.
Sgt. Messer activated his emergency lights and the vehicle failed to stop and fled from police. The vehicle exceeded the posted speed limit several times, didn't have any headlights or tail lights on and crossed the center line a few times.
The pursuit continued into Country Squire Lakes, where the vehicle turned too wide and drove into a ditch. The vehicle finally came to a stop at a home. That's where Begley was taken into custody and charged. He resisted arrest several times and made verbal threats to all of the officers involved.
