An Indianapolis man faces several charges including drunk driving and domestic battery after he allegedly intentionally crashed his car into two parked vehicles in the Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area in Johnson County Saturday.
Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox says 59-year-old Lawrence Gillim, of Indianapolis, is being accused of battering his girlfriend, 58-year-old Cheryl Boillat, of Indianapolis, in his car while it was in motion and not allowing her to get out.
According to the sheriff’s report, when a deputy arrived at the scene, he noticed Boillat was seriously injured and lying next to the car Gillim crashed into a pickup truck. Two witnesses told the deputy that Boillat left the car first from the passenger side and then Gillim left the passenger side after she did. Gillim asked one of the witnesses if he was calling 911 since he saw a witness on the phone. The witness said yes he was calling 911 and that’s when Gillim left the scene of the accident and ran into the woods.
Cox says K-9 officers arrived to search for Gillim. He was later found in a neighboring cornfield and subdued by the K-9. Gillim was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for a blood draw and treatment of his wounds due to the K-9 biting him. Boillat was also taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for treatment after visible signs of battery were noticed.
After treatment, Gillim was taken to the Johnson County Jail. His bond was set at $41,000.
The sheriff says the investigation continues.
