The trial of a Seymour man suspected of killing his ex-wife and seriously injuring her daughter has been canceled.
According to Jennings Circuit Court records, the trial of 63-year-old James Sowder was set to begin Tuesday morning. It was set aside by Judge Jon W. Webster due to a plea agreement between Sowder's attorneys and the Jennings County Prosecutor's Office. Details of the agreement have not been released. Webster set a hearing to enter the plea agreement for Jan. 8.
Sowder is accused of shooting and killing his ex-wife and seriously injuring her adult daughter during the July 29, 2012 incident. Sixty-four-year-old Candace Sowder died after her ex-husband allegedly shot her outside of her Country Squire Lakes home. After the shooting, James Sowder allegedly made his way into the home and shot then-42-year-old Regina Johnson. Johnson was rushed to a hospital and survived.
Sowder was arrested moments after the incident.
