Ohio Man Injured While Working on Gas Line in Jackson County

An Ohio man was injured in a pressure explosion Friday in Jackson County.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Carothers says around 6 p.m., 31-year-old Allen Brown, of New Concord, OH, was attempting to tighten a leaking plug on a gas line that was being installed to connect an oil field from Pennsylvania to Reddington when the plug blew.

Carothers says two other workers were in the trench with Brown when the explosion happened.

The sheriff added the plug blew out while Brown was within two feet of it. The plug was between 18 and 20 inches in diameter and weighed around 20 pounds. It hit Brown in the chest and abdominal area.

Brown works for Bi-Con Services of Dewernt, OH. OSHA was contacted and has started to investigate.

Brown was conscious and alert at the scene and was having difficulty breathing. He was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Jackson County EMS and the Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
