A Johnson County man was charged with domestic battery and DUI after sheriff's deputies responded to a home in the 800 block of Hospital Road in Franklin early Tuesday morning after getting a report that the man had allegedly hit his ex-wife.
According to Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox, the victim, 24-year-old Kaitlin Butler of Franklin, had been punched in the face by her ex-husband, 24-year-old Joshua Scott Bourland of Franklin. Bourland had left prior to police arriving, but was pulled over later for DUI.
In Butler's statement to the sheriff's office, she said Bourland tried going into her house and tried pushing her down the steps. Butler said Bourland then made a statement saying he was going to kill her and take her son from her. Butler added that she then told Bourland he wasn't getting anything and that's when Bourland hit her in the face. The sheriff says Butler is pregnant and has two children in common with Bourland.
Butler told police that Bourland hit her with a closed fist. She then said the argument was carried over from Bojak's Bar in Franklin. Butler said when Bourland attempted to leave; he had the car in the wrong gear and went forward hitting a basketball goal. She then said that Bourland backed out of the driveway in a hurry.
When police spoke to Bourland while waiting for his certified breath test at the Johnson County Jail, he said nothing happened. Bourland added that he and Butler had been in an argument and at no time did he hit her. Bourland said that he and Butler have been trying to work things out and have two kids together. He had been married to Butler for two years and had been divorced from her for two years. He did not provide a written statement stating nothing happened.
