A man died in an early morning house fire in Franklin Monday.
Franklin Fire Department spokesman Chuck Ridpath told the "Daily Journal" the man, whose name has not been released, used a wheelchair and was pulled from the house by firefighters who used a thermal imaging camera to locate him.
Ridpath says firefighters were called to a house fire at 140 Herriott St. at about 4:30 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke coming out of the home. One of the residents was already outside but another resident, who uses a wheelchair, was trapped inside the house.
Firefighters went into the home and, using the thermal imaging camera, found the man inside the kitchen. Ridpath added that firefighters pulled the man out of the home and then began to work to put out the flames in a back bedroom. Both residents were taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital, where the man died.
Ridpath says the fire is under investigation. Firefighters said the fire is not suspicious, but no preliminary cause has been determined. Most of the damage was confined to the back bedroom.
