One man was arrested Monday after allegedly robbing a Franklin gas station at gun point.
Franklin Police were called to the Swifty Gas Station at 650 Madison Street just before 4 p.m. According to the report, a white male with a long goatee and driving a black SUV, made suspicious statements to the clerk. The man allegedly told the clerk that he was going to come back later and rob the gas station. The clerk reported this incident to police and extra patrols of the area were arranged.
Just after 7 p.m., the same gas station was robbed at gunpoint. The clerk told police that several customers were getting fuel. When the last of those customers left, the suspect approached the clerk. The victim stated that the suspect was wearing a brown hooded jacket and a black ski mask and pointed a silver and black hand gun while demanding money. The suspect then fled on foot going east on Madison Street.
Officers quickly arrived on scene and began to search the area. A witness approached one of the officers and said that they saw a white male wearing a ski mask and brown jacket get into a black SUV that was parked nearby.
Police approached the vehicle, which was occupied by 24-year-old Eric Logan Steffey. They received consent to search the vehicle and found evidence of the robbery. Police interviewed Steffey and arrested him for armed robbery.
Steffey was booked into the Johnson County Jail on $40,000 bond.
