Columbus Mayor Kristen Brown has announced the winners of the Mayor's Holiday Card Design Contest, whose artwork will be featured on this year's holiday cards sent out by the city of Columbus.
Chris Schilling, the communications and program coordinator for Community Development, says that this year's winners were selected based on their creative interpretations of the Chaos I sculpture during the Christmas season. Other selection criteria included colorfulness and a "sense of holiday warmth and cheer."
Six designs were selected to be featured on the Mayor's cards, including one from each grade, 1 through 6. The winners are:
· First Grade: Emerson Maiani, Columbus Signature Academy-Lincoln Campus.
· Second Grade: Molly Bray, Richards Elementary School.
· Third Grade: Kendall DeMaio, Smith Elementary School.
· Four Grade: Jessyka Brown, Columbus Signature Academy-Fodrea Campus.
· Fifth Grade: Gabby Saunders, Smith Elementary School.
· Sixth Grade: Charlize Meek, Mt. Healthy Elementary School.
"These young students showed tremendous talent in their holiday card designs, which will proudly represent the city of Columbus and our residents as we send season's greetings around the world," Mayor Brown said. "We received a number of excellent entries, and we greatly appreciate all the students' efforts. It was difficult to pick among them because all of the entries are winners. I am very grateful to all the students who participated."
Mayor Brown's office received nearly 300 entries. All entries are on display in the lower lobby of The Commons. They will remain there through the end of the month. You are encouraged to stop by and enjoy the artwork.
