A North Vernon man was arrested on drug-related charges Wednesday at his Country Squire Lakes home after being wanted by the Jennings County Probation Department for violating probation.
Maj. Jerry Shepherd, with the Jennings County Sheriff's Office, says 58-year-old Michael J. Bates, of 315 Hickory Way, was found to be in possession of a large amount of Schedule II narcotics that were not prescribed to him during his arrest. Bates allegedly had the pills in his shirt pocket at the time officers made the arrest and took him to the Jennings County Jail.
Shepherd says officers also found 28-year-old Holley Kramer, of Clarksville, in the home. She was wanted out of Clark County for criminal trespass. Kramer was taken to the Jennings County Jail where she was later transferred to Clark County authorities.
Besides the warrant for probation violation, Bates is charged with possession of Schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a common nuisance, harboring a fugitive, violation of legend drug act, assisting a criminal and possession of marijuana.
