The first winter storm of the season is heading our way.
Bryan Burton is the manager of the Columbus City Garage. He says his department will be working hard to keep the streets in good condition. To aid in that effort, he says he has a barn full of street salt and 19 trucks ready to hit city streets.
Burton says that snow plow drivers have a method as to what roads are plowed and when. While he understands that it can be frustrating to residents, the plows need to prioritize on the city's main arteries like 25th Street, Central Avenue and Washington Street. Once these roads are clear, Burton says work begins on interior streets. However, if the weather takes a turn for the worse, those side roads would need to be abandoned for a period of time in order to keep the main city arteries open.
Burton says that city residents need to have an abundance of patience. He also asks that you take a moment to give plow drivers a "thumbs-up" when you see them. Burton says it's also a good idea to give them plenty of room to work. "The more room we have to work, the faster we can get it done," he said.
