It seems the most recent round of wintry weather has caused some minor damage to the Decatur County Courthouse in Greensburg.
The "Greensburg Daily News" reports ice had backed up into a gutter leading to a roof leak that damaged carpets, plaster, ceiling tiles and drywall within the building, all of which will need to be replaced. That's according to Decatur County Commissioner Rick Nobbe.
Nobbe said water had leaked into the ceiling which subsequently reached a smoke detector and set off the building’s fire alarm system.
The Greensburg Fire Department, Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Minute Maid’s Cleaning Service and Ellerman’s Roofing all helped prevent further damage at the scene, which wasn't expected to negatively impact any services when the building opened for business Monday morning.
Nobbe estimated the damage may cost between $5,000 and $7,000. He called the work undertaken to stop the leak "a tremendous community effort."
Nobbe said the Decatur County Probation Office may temporarily move to an upstairs location while the necessary repairs are made. No records were damaged in the incident.
