Bartholomew County Commissioners signed an agreement for health care services for inmates of the county jail.
The commission voted unanimously to approve a contract with Advanced Health Care, based out of Illinois. Under the agreement, the company will administer the health care costs of the jail. Commissioner chairman Carl Lienhop says the county has been working Advanced Health Care since 2008. Total cost of the contract is just over $248,000 per year.
The commissioners also took time to thank a longtime member of the Bartholomew County Data Board. The body declared Monday to be "John D. Rondot Day" in Bartholomew County.
Commissioners spent the last portion of Monday's meeting discussing the issues surrounding the Bartholomew County Annex building. Lienhop reminded those in attendance that engineering firm DLZ submitted its report on the annex's structural issues during last week's meeting. He also brought up the costs associated with the building to either renovate or replace the State Street building.
Commissioner Larry Kleinhenz said that it is important for county residents to share their thoughts with their county representatives on both the commission and the Bartholomew County Council. While Kleinhenz says he personally supports a measure that would see construction of a new building on the same property, the issue is far from resolved. He told those in attendance that, as with all county government issues, it is about making the best decision for county residents with the resources that are available.
Lienhop added that they will continue taking public input on the annex issue for the rest of this year and into early 2014.
