The recent blast of winter weather was tough for many school districts, including the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation.
Superintendent Dr. John Quick talked about how decisions are made on whether to delay or close school. Quick says BCSC begins observing road conditions at 4 a.m. He then makes a decision on any school delays or cancellations by 5:30 a.m., as buses begin running at 6 a.m. Quick adds that when a decision has been made to postpone classes, the district still has people watching road and weather conditions until 7:30 a.m. to help decide whether or not to upgrade to a closing.
Quick says BCSC has six snow days built in to the calendar. Once those are exhausted, he says days will be made up during the second week of spring break. Quick says those days will be lopped off beginning the end of the second week and moving toward Monday. He says the first week of spring break is protected and will not be affected by snow make up days.
