As we look back at some of the top stories of 2013, Columbus' native son and former Congressman Mike Pence became Indiana's 50th governor in January, succeeding two-term Governor Mitch Daniels. Pence won the governor's race last year defeating Democrat challenger John Gregg by a very narrow margin.

During his inaugural address, Pence told onlookers that "we must continue living within our means, hold the line on spending and let Hoosiers keep more of their hard earned money income." The governor went on to say that "we must work together to put kids first." He added that "there is nothing that ailes our schools that can't be fixed by giving parents more choices and by giving teachers more freedom to teach."

Pence also gave high praise to Gov. Daniels and to the many government officials in making Indiana "a torch of fiscal responsibility, innovation and reform."
